As one of the more established polo clubs in South
Africa, Franshoek Polo School offers a unique polo experience. Practice chukkas are usually
played three times a week and, for the spectators, sipping ice cold champagne
whilst watching the game is nearly as exciting as being on the polo field

Horse-riding is big along the Eastern Highlands. A couple of farms near Clarens provide outstanding riding onto the Drakensberg Escarpment, from where you can gaze across into Lesotho and view southern Africa's highest peaks.
Nestled in the rolling foothills of the Maluti Mountains of the north eastern Free State lies the Golden Gate Highlands National Park. The park derives its name from the brilliant shades of gold cast by the sun on the park's sandstone cliffs, especially the imposing Brandwag rock, keeping vigil over the main rest camp.
The extended nature conservation area around the dam of Sterkfontein is characterised by rugged mountains, endless expanse and a lot of water. Besides long walks and hikes, it offers watersport and fishing facilities in the dam.

Impressive sandstone formations, ablaze with the last red of the setting sun, or shrouded in a white winter blanket, are just two of the many moods of this beautiful mountain Park in the Drakensberg Mountains.
An abundance of wildlife, including herds of zebras, rooihartebees, eland, springbok. impala, black wildebeest and many other antelope species, graze wide-open spaces of the rolling hills in the Wolhuterskop Game and Nature Reserve outside Bethlehem, on the way to Fouriesburg.
Collecting the waters of the Jordan River, which flows through Bethlehem, the Loch Athlone Dam is an important water source for the surrounding area, while offering local residents and visitors the chance to relax and take part in a variety of recreational activities.
Ficksburg is known throughout the country as the Cherry
Town, and the two have become synonymous with each other. The Ficksburg Cherry
Festival takes place during the third week in November. This is the oldest crop
festival in South Africa having celebrated its 43rd anniversary in 2010.
The most famous landmarks in the Eastern Free State, the 9 kilometer long, 2 377 metre high Platberg. The Platberg Game reserve is a 1400 ha wildlife area adjoining the Harrismith Botanical Garden. In the Platberg Game Reserve you will find various antelope species. 4x4 trails, mountain bike trails and hiking trails. Even overnight in the nature reserve is possible.
